About:

Dana Kearley.
Vancouver based artist.

My work revolves around points of intersection: between human and animal, natural and man-made, figurative and abstract. In my artwork, made with pen, pencil and paint, characteristics of humans and animals are blurred and boundaries are crossed, raising questions of difference and similarity. I often work in patterns that can be either concrete or abstract, depending on the viewer or the context. Because I have difficulty expressing myself verbally, my work becomes a kind of translation of thought. The dreamlike quality of my work may be a product of the fact that my thoughts, which are mostly images and emotions, are put down almost directly onto paper or canvas without having gone through an intermediate stage of verbalization.
